#1: Pack it up!

While it may seem simple to just casually throw your laptop or computer of any form into a backpack when you are in a mad rush to the airport to catch a last minute flight. If you throw it into a backpack that is not meant to hold laptops etc. you may find tons of scratches and damages when you arrive in your destination. Pack your laptop or computer up properly either in a bag that was designed to hold one such as a breifcase or wrap it in bubble wrap and other clothing.

#2: Put a Sleeve on it!

Laptop sleeves offer the best form of protection when it comes to supporting your laptop in every which way. They are easy to use and you can slip your laptop in quickly when you are in a rush. It will protect your computer from major dings and scratches and keep everything in its place. The only downfall of tucking your laptop into a sleeve is that it may be inconvenient when you need immediate access.

#3: Back it up!

Make numerous copies of your files, buy an external hard drive and keep an array of USB flash sticks on hand. If anything (god forbid!) happens to your laptop or computer you can guarantee the safety of your files.

#6: Stop Thieves in their Tracks

Avoid flashing around your laptops in public areas, keep it on you at all times and do not leave your laptop by iteself on a counter top or cafe table. Just because people are trusted in your home town does not mean the rest of the world is the same.

#7: Log Out!

Do not forget to log out when you sign into banking and oher personal websites. This includes Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn and many other popular social media websites.

Carry your health information with you and make copies of each document. Keep them in a seperate bag from the originals.
Check the World Health Organization website for current diseases and outbreaks abroad.
Do not drink tap water and be wary of salads, fruits and vegetables that may have been washed with the local tap water. Stick to sealed bottles of water, carbonated drinks and boiled water. Do not take chances!
Stear clear of raw foods. They just may not be up to par in other countries. Take a sushi-free vacation!
Use straws when drinking from cans. (Maybe this isn't a smart idea with a Corona or other types of beer. If that's the case, make sure you wipe the top of the can or opt for a glass)
Some countries require that you take preventive medications before visiting. Check with your doctor.
Take care of any necessary dental appointments before traveling. It will decrease your chances of having a nightmare of a tooth emergency abroad.
If you have allergies, research and practice the names of the foods in other languages. Soy allergico a las cacahuetes! (Translation: I am allergic to peanuts in Spanish)
Write down the locations of local hospitals and health clinics before traveling. This can save time in emergencies.

More and more women are deciding to travel on their own these days and it is a smart woman who takes precautions to rule out any uncomfortable or risky situations that may occur.

Make sure you check out these top travel tips for women traveling alone. Don't let anything stop you from having the dream vacation of a lifetime!

#1: Always leave your valuables at home. Forget bringing your great grandma's antique earrings or your favourite diamond necklace that you were given on your anniversary. The more bling women wear when traveling abroad, the more you become a target for pick pockets.

#2: Stay aware at all times. As a woman traveling alone it is good to keep your eyes and ears open at all times. If a scenario or place doesn't feel right, including people you meet, trust your gut and get out of there.

#5: Ask around. Talk to locals and staff within the hotel you are staying at. Ask about safe areas and what areas you should steer clear from.

#6: If you have a purse with a strap, wear it across your chest. This will prevent anyone from having immediate access to your identification etc. It is also more difficult for a thief to steal your purse if it's wrapped around you.

#7: Make sure you have all emergency contact numbers on you and that all of your family and friends at home have your itinerary. Do not talk to strangers about your itinerary and travel plans in great detail, no matter how friendly they seem. Be aware!

#8: If you are not staying within a safe hotel and resort, try to wear proper clothing and don't reveal too much skin. Obviously, if you are staying at a resort you can prance around in your swim suit without worry and smooth out those tan lines.

#9: Make copies of your identification and passports. Keep them back at the hotel or in a seperate bag as a precaution.

#10: Make phone calls to friends and family back home to check in. Especially if you are traveling for more than a week.

#1: Make sure you have all of the local emergency phone numbers such as the embassy and police of your destination, as well as hospital and medical clinic listings. Also make sure you know how to make an international call out of the destination you are visiting so you can reach loved ones.

#2: Research the security situation of the place you are seeking to visit. Knowing the limitations, enforcement, rules and state of security can help prevent unwanted travel experiences.
