As the capital of Switzerland, Berne is vibrant, busy and beautiful. Founded in 1191, Berne is a city of medieval times and is situated on the River Aare. There is so much to see and do in this famous Swiss city such as promenade shopping, Clock Tower viewing and cathedral exploring.
Famous for creating the delicious Toblerone chocolate bar, Berne is also known for its Swiss cheese, grand towers, dancing fountains, physicist Albert Einstein and buildings that are rich with history. In 1983, Berne was been noted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and thousands of tourists visit the city every year to see the Prison Tower, the Heiliggeist-Kirche church, House of Parliament and the Munster-Cathedral.
Houses are connected by numerous large shopping arcades that are open regardless of the weather, so make sure you bring some ‘rain or shine’ cash for fun shopping excursions. Designed with a Gothic style in mind, the city of Bern is charming with its many archways, bay windows and sloping roof tops. The phenomenal Clock Tower and its famous puppet show captures the hearts of visitors annually, while the River Aare offers stunning scenic views and photo opportunities.
While you're there don't forget to visit Gurten, the Rose Garden and the ever so popular Einstein Museum. There is never a shortage of fun to have in the beautiful city of Berne, Switzerland.
