Food: The food is a great cultural marker, combining German, Belgian, and French tastes, methods and ingredients. Pork is a popular meat, especially smoked, with beans and sauerkraut, as is its famous smokes Ardennes ham. Fish include trout, pike and crayfish. Specialities are the desserts, often made with local wines and liqueurs, of very high quality. Look for tarte aux quetsches! The excellent wines of the Moselle Valley in the south-east resemble the German (Rhine wines) and are less fruity than the French. Riesland, Rivaner and Elbling are popular whites. Take a wine tour! Beer, liqueurs and spirits are also locally made and worth sampling.
