People and CulturePeople and Culture: Art has had a strong influence on the cultural heritage of the Netherlands. Rembrandt and Van Gogh are two of the world's best known painters, both Dutch. The Dutch celebrated the Golden Age in the 17th century, a time when Dutch scientists, writers, philosophers, cartographers and theologians contributed much to the world. One of the important events on the calendar is St Nicolas Day, celebrated on the 5th of December. An event, not unlike Christmas, where gifts and are handed out. Satirical rhymes usually accompany these gifts

A resident or national of Netherlands is called "Dutchman (Dutchwoman)". The Term used to describe things from here is "Dutch". For example, "Dutch food".

FoodFood: The traditional Dutch cuisine includes hearty stews and soups and is famous for its cheeses. There is abundant seafood, maatjes (herring), eel and mussels being rather popular. Raisin bread and baked goods are traditional and tasty, as well as treacle waffles (stroopwafels). Indonesian food is to the Netherlands what Indian curries are to England. Dutch colonization of Indonesia has incorporated many dishes into the Dutch way of life. A good example of this being the rijstafel (rice table). Genever, a Dutch version of gin with juniper is one of their national drinks. Beer is also widely savoured.
