Importing / Exporting CurrencyImporting / Exporting Currency: Some countries place restrictions on the amount of currency you can enter and leave with. These rules are subject to change. Please confirm this information with a government source:

Your Home Currency
Importing: Exporting:
No restrictions, but it is recommended that you declare it upon arrival. You must declare it if it an amount larger than $300 USD. Limited to the amount you declared upon entering.
Local Currency (XAF)
Importing: Exporting:
Prohibited, unless traveling from countries in the Central African Group. You must declare it if it an amount larger than $300 USD. Prohibited, unless traveling from countries in the Central African Group.

A Tip: If you do not have an opportunity to change some of your money to local currency before your arrival, you should try to get some at the airport before your drive to the hotel. Bills in small denominations and coins in the local currency will make paying a taxi driver or tipping a porter less stressful.

Travel Advice: Wherever possible, you should convert currency at a bank, official bureau of exchange or major hotel. Some countries require you to enter each transaction on a currency exchange declaration form for presentation upon departure. If you cannot produce receipts for each transaction, you might be fined. These measures are taken by foreign governments to prevent black market trade in your home currency. You can avoid problems by avoiding black market money changers, no matter how tempting their rates might be.
