Slovakia is situated in the heart of Europe, sharing its borders with Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and the Ukraine. This little landlocked country is home to over 3 dozen thermal pools, spas, thousands of caves (12 of which are open to the public), National Parks, Botanical and Zoological Gardens, almost 200 castles and ruins as well as over a thousand manor houses. There are also many museums and old wooden churches, typical of this country. Folk festivals, castle tours, cycling, Danube ship cruises, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, paragliding, rowing, kayaking and spelunking (caving) are on offer here. Although Slovakia is small, it has a web of ski lifts and tows - an ideal winter playground.
