Destination Cities: Vaduz may be small, but it contains most of the country's sightseeing goals-the State Art Collection (Staatliche Kunstsammlung), with art collected over the centuries by Liechtenstein's princes, the Postage Stamp Museum, with more than 300 frames of stamps issued since 1912, even a Ski Museum! The National Museum(Landesmuseum) has coins, weapons, folklore exhibits and an informative slide show of the history of Liechtenstein. Climb the hill for a look at the castle (not open for tours, however). Malbun: Ski buffs take note! This premier resort is your destination! Two ski schools, as well as novice runs and runs for the very experienced, make this a fine family holiday location. Triesenberg, above Vaduz, overlooks the Rhine Valley. It is home to a lovely onion-domed church, and a museum devoted to the 13th century Walser community from Switzerland. The Walser dialect is still spoken in the region. Appenzell: Visit this town on the last Sunday in April for a "sitting" of the Liechtenstein open-air parliament, when everyone wears traditional dress, which often includes, for the men, swords and daggers-proof of their citizenship!
Feldkirch by the Austrian border is notable for its medieval buildings, particularly the 12th-century Schattenburg Castle, which houses a museum. The Schubertiade music festival is held here in late June.
Points of Interest: Facilities for skiing, hiking, and mountaineering are excellent here, the main ski resorts being Steg (for cross-country) and Malbun. Walking tours are popular in summer, especially the Fürstensteig, along the ridge which divides the Rhine and Samina valleys. Cyclists, mountain bikers and para-gliders also find Liechtenstein a lot of fun.
