Destination Cities: Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal. There are many Buddhist Temples in the city. Durbar Square, dating back many centuries is a blend of palaces, temples and courtyards. The square is also home to a museum. You can visit the clock tower, Rani Pokhari (pond), Annapurna Temple, market square and Makhan plaza. A 'heritage walk' to places of historical interest includes temples, courtyards and stupas. Visit one of the holiest sites in Nepal, the Swayambhu Temple. Balaju makes for an interesting outing. It has numerous carved water spouts used for ritual bathing.
Patan has its own Durbar Square, home to the former Royal Palace. Buddhist monasteries, monuments and places of worship are plentiful. A zoo and Tibetan refugee camp are also found here.
A visit to the ancient centre of India, Janakpur, is a pilgrimage site for many Hindus. Situated in Terai, is a great cultural destination. Ghorka is a hilly town, home to an historical palace, a cobbled street bazaar, a cave housing the temple of Gorkhanath. This town offers majestic views of the surrounding mountains. For those with a taste for adventure, Pokhara is the gateway to many of the outdoor activities.
Points of Interest: Nepal has numerous national parks. Sagarmatha National Park is home to Mt. Everest. For alternative interests visit the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve or Royal Bardia National Park which supports endangered species such as tigers, elephants, rhino, crocodiles and Gangetic Dolphins. You may want to visit Tansen (a resort popular during summer months) or the birth place of Buddha, Lumbini. The natural beauty of lakes, rivers, waterfalls and mountain peaks in the Pokhara Valley attracts many tourists each year. A visit to Everest Base Camp is an experience of a lifetime!
