My Personal Experience at The Royalton Cayo Santa Maria Resort and Spa

Our visit to the Royalton Cayo Santa Maria Resort and Spa was unlike any other vacation experience I have had.  From the very first moment we arrived at the resort we were treated like royalty and catered to.  Even though we knew of the deluxe services and All-in Luxury® concept before we arrived, we felt as though the staff would go above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one. Every one of the staff members were warm and friendly and we always knew we could ask for anything we might need. There was a constant level of top quality service and never a moment where you felt unimportant.

We arrived on a Thursday evening at Santa Clara International Airport and were warmly welcomed by Katia Yera, a Sunwing Representative. We then were given a private transfer to the resort and were provided with a extremely knowledgeable tour guide from Gaviota Tours named Danny. While we were quite exhausted from our travels we listened to all sorts of amazing stories about Cuban history, vegetation, imports, typical Cuban cuisine, exports and learned about the Cuban lifestyle in general.

Upon arriving at the resort we were greeted with a smile (About 10 smiles!) as some of the staff, including management had lined up to say hello to us and check us in. We were introduced to our exclusive butler Alex who then escorted us to our ocean view suite and showed us the ropes of the room gadgets and features.  He was completely thorough with his tour of the room features and also provided us with champagne on ice and a welcome note. We were already overwhelmed with the first-class pampering and VIP treatment. (If you ever want to feel like a celebrity for a week, book the Royalton Cayo Santa Maria Resort and Spa and live like a rock star!) Check out the spa below and you'll know what I mean.

The next day we felt a bit more settled and we woke up to captivating waters, a colour that I cannot even describe. It was like a soft green, turquoise and blue mixed together. See below for your own conclusion.

Our dining experiences at Sunset, Senses and Eggscellence were always top quality and we managed to squeeze in a lobster dish at least 5 times during the vacation. There were theme nights with themed dishes so guests have the option to try something new every day. My beau, Shaun had a great love for the popular Royalton Burger (see below) because of the addition of an egg and other tasty items.

The Sunset Restaurant was indeed a fantastic place for a picturesque Cuban sunset and was ideal for snacks and lunches, while Eggscellence and Senses were much more fancy and perfect for dressing up and fine dining. We couldn't get enough of those Cuban-made capuccinos! The food was top-notch and I actually felt like I was eating really healthy on this vacation, unlike other resorts that serve up a lot of grease and fatty menu items. I truly enjoyed the Cuban cuisine night at Senses Restaurant where we were able to sample some authentic Cuban delights including more lobster! See below!

Julie Lasante, Rooms Division Manager, was fantastic at keeping in touch with us to see if we needed anything during our stay and even brought me mosquito repellent when I needed it most. She was extremely warm and kind and if you book a stay at the Royalton Cayo Santa Maria, you will most likely see her friendly smile around. Speaking of rooms, our room was always immaculate thanks to our housekeeper Jany and Alex, our butler who kept on top of things.

We did pop over to Memories Azul Beach Resort one evening, but realized it wasn't our style as it was louder and much more crowded. If you crave genuine quiet time away together go to the Royalton Cayo Santa Maria. If you want lively nights, a party-like atmosphere and to meet new people, try Memories Resorts.

We spent most days lounging around by the pool, swimming, sipping pina coladas, checking out El Pueblo next door for souvenirs for our family members, eating (you must try the Cuban sandwiches by the pool! A great snack fix!) and enjoyed the sun. (What a rough life!) It always felt as though each day was whipping by, so by the time it came to our last day we felt like we could have done with a few more.

We truly loved our visit to the resort, to breathtaking Cayo Santa Maria and to Cuba in general. As they say,"When in Cuba, do as Cuban's do" and as you can see below, Shaun embraced the culture wholeheartedly!

My Final Thoughts

Without a doubt in my mind I would recommend the Royalton Cayo Santa Maria Resort and Spa to lovers, honeymooners, couples and friends seeking genuine time away together. Those who are thinking about getting married or renewing their vows on a beach in Cuba or somewhere in the Caribbean should definitely consider this resort as their number one choice. The resort itself exudes royalty, elegance and warmth and I know we will return at some point to be utterly pampered once again. The resort staff and our experience at the Royalton Cayo Santa Maria will always have a special place in our hearts.
